Terms
Last updated 14 August 2026.
These terms cover your use of Bunso, the macOS dictation app. They are written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. Buy Bunso Go once and it is yours, on up to two Macs, with updates included and no subscription. The free tier is unlimited and permanent. Your dictation is yours — we never receive it. If Bunso is not for you, ask within 30 days and you get your money back. We do not promise the software is perfect, and our liability is capped at what you paid.
The short version is a summary. The sections below are the actual terms.
1. Who you are dealing with
Bunso is made and sold by Periabyte Software Development Services, a sole proprietorship registered with the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry under Business Name No. 8412057, whose proprietor is Jean Paul Dionco Peria. Referred to below as “we” and “us”. “You” means the person or organisation using the software.
Our business address is 707 Quezon South Tower, The Residences at Commonwealth, Don Antonio Drive, Batasan Hills, Quezon City 1126, Philippines.
Who sells to you depends on the currency you pay in.
- Purchases in Philippine pesos are sold by us directly, through a Philippine payment processor. We are the seller of record, and these terms govern both the sale and your use of the software.
- Purchases in any other currency are sold through an international payment provider acting as merchant of record. That provider is the seller for those transactions: it takes the payment, it is responsible for any sales tax or VAT that applies where you are, and its own terms govern the sale itself. These terms still govern your license to use the software.
Your receipt will name whoever sold to you.
2. What your license grants
Buying Bunso Go grants you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the software.
- Two Macs per license. Your license covers up to two Macs at a time, for your own use. Activating a Mac claims one of the two; Settings → License → Remove License releases it, so replacing a machine costs you nothing. A reinstall on a Mac you have already activated does not use a second.
- Perpetual. Paying once licenses the software indefinitely. There is no subscription and no renewal.
- Updates included. Updates are provided at our discretion and are included at no extra cost. We do not promise a release schedule or that any particular feature will ever ship.
- Personal or business use. Both are allowed. If several people each use Bunso, each person needs their own license.
- Verified on your Mac. Activating asks our server for your license once, the first time you use it on a Mac. After that it is checked offline, on your machine: it does not expire, it does not require you to be online, and it does not stop working if our servers do. If you need a license that never contacts us at all, ask and we will issue one.
You may not resell, sublicense, rent or share your license key, nor attempt to defeat the licensing itself. You may not decompile or reverse engineer the software except where law expressly permits it despite this restriction.
3. The free tier
The free tier is not a trial. It has no time limit, no daily cap, no watermark and no nag screens, and it uses the same speech models with the same accuracy as Go. We may change what the paid tier adds, but we will not put a cap on the free tier that was not there when you installed it.
The free tier is provided as-is and the same disclaimers below apply to it.
4. What Bunso needs to run
Bunso requires a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Intel Macs are not supported and will not be.
Bunso needs three macOS permissions to work: Microphone to hear you, Input Monitoring for the global hotkey, and Accessibility to type into other applications. You grant these yourself in System Settings and can withdraw them at any time, which will stop the corresponding feature working.
Bunso is not sandboxed, because those permissions are incompatible with the macOS App Sandbox. This is why Bunso is not distributed through the Mac App Store.
On first run Bunso downloads speech and cleanup models, which are several gigabytes. You need the disk space and the bandwidth for that download.
5. Payment, refunds and revocation
Prices are shown at checkout in the currency you choose. You choose the currency; we do not select it from your location.
Refunds. If Bunso is not what you wanted, ask within 30 days of your purchase and we will refund you in full. You do not have to give a reason.
The window is 30 days rather than the 14 that several consumer-protection regimes set as a floor, so that one policy is at least as generous as the local rule everywhere we sell. Nothing in this section reduces a statutory right you have where you live; if your local law gives you longer, or gives you a right on different terms, that applies instead.
What a refund does. Refunding a purchase revokes the license for future activations: the key stops activating new Macs. It cannot reach a Mac that has already activated, because that Mac never contacts us again — the same property that makes the app work offline. If you have been refunded, you agree to stop using the paid features and may continue on the free tier, which remains unlimited.
We may also revoke a license, without refund, if it was obtained fraudulently or through a reversed or disputed payment.
6. Your content is yours
Everything you dictate, and everything Bunso produces from it, belongs to you. We claim no rights over it whatsoever and place no restriction on what you do with it.
We never receive it. Recording and transcription happen entirely on your Mac, and your audio never leaves it under any setting. The privacy page is the full account of what can and cannot cross the network, and it forms part of these terms.
What activation sends. The one exception to “the app never contacts us” is the moment you activate or remove a license, which sends your license key, a one-way hash of a hardware identifier, and the app’s version. We keep that hash in order to count the two Macs your license covers, and for no other purpose: it cannot be reversed and it does not identify you or your machine to us. We do not receive your email address, your settings, or anything about how or how often you use Bunso.
7. If you use your own API key
Bunso Go can run the cleanup step at an AI provider you choose, using an API key you supply. This is off by default and does nothing until you turn it on.
When you turn it on, your text goes from your Mac directly to that provider. We take no cut, run no proxy, and never see the request. Your relationship with that provider is yours: you pay them, their terms govern what they do with your text, and any charge they bill you is between you and them. We are not responsible for a provider’s availability, output, pricing or handling of your data.
Your audio is never sent to any provider under any setting.
8. Acceptable use
Do not use Bunso to break the law, to record people who have not consented where consent is required, or to produce material that is unlawful. Recording consent rules vary by jurisdiction and complying with them is your responsibility — Bunso transcribes whatever it hears and cannot know who is in the room.
9. Third-party components
Bunso includes open-source software from third parties, each under its own license. Those licenses govern those components, and nothing in these terms limits any right you have under them.
The complete list travels inside the app — every component, its version and its full license text. You can read it at Settings → Advanced → Third-Party Licenses. Nothing in the app is under a copyleft license: every bundled dependency is MIT or Apache-2.0.
The speech and cleanup models are not part of the app. They are downloaded from their publishers on first run and are licensed by those publishers, not by us, under their own terms.
Each model’s publisher and license are named there too: Parakeet under CC-BY-4.0 (NVIDIA), Whisper under MIT (OpenAI), and Qwen3 under Apache-2.0.
10. Warranty, and the absence of one
Bunso is provided “as is”. Speech recognition is inherently imperfect: it will mishear words, and the cleanup step will sometimes change meaning in ways you did not intend. Read what Bunso produces before you send it, sign it, or run it. This matters most in a terminal, where a transcription error is a command you did not mean to type.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Bunso will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defect will be corrected.
Where you deal with us as a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected by anything in this section.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising from your use of or inability to use Bunso.
Our total liability to you for any claim relating to Bunso is limited to the amount you actually paid for it in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
12. Ending this agreement
You may stop using Bunso at any time. Deleting the app ends your obligations; the files it wrote stay on your Mac until you delete them yourself.
We may end your license if you materially breach these terms — for example by sharing a key or by circumventing licensing — and we will tell you why. Sections 6, 10, 11 and 15 survive the end of this agreement.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version in force for your purchase is the one published when you bought, and a later change does not retroactively remove a right you paid for. The date at the top of this page is the date it last changed, and material changes are described here rather than left for you to spot.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, where the seller is established. Sales made through an international merchant of record are additionally subject to that provider’s own terms for the sale itself.
Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Quezon City, Philippines.
If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and nothing above removes a right your local law gives you to bring proceedings where you live.
15. General provisions
Entire agreement. These terms, together with our privacy page, form the entire agreement between you and Periabyte Software Development Services regarding Bunso, and replace any earlier statements, discussions or advertising.
Severability. If a court or authority finds any part of these terms invalid or unenforceable, that part will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the rest of these terms will remain fully in force.
Age requirements. By using Bunso, you confirm that you have the legal capacity to enter into these terms in your jurisdiction, or that you are using it with parent or legal guardian consent.
16. Contact
Questions about these terms, refunds, or a license that is not behaving should go to a human: [email protected]. That is also the address for privacy requests — asking what we hold, correcting it, or deleting it.
